Thom Browne Spring 2014 Gets a Gender Bending Military Makeover
Look… A man in a dress… but he’s so official? I tend to think of Thom Browne’s collections as conceptual and fresh and though the military theme was expertly delivered, many of the pieces acted as a flash bomb misdirecting your attention to the pop and pizazz rather than to the expert tailoring and Browne’s aptitude for creating stylish menswear.
Yes, Thom opened his Spring 2013 men’s collection with a series of pan-goat men which… for most part was just for effect but… he also threw in some seriously wearable (although insanely bright) menswear that took my breath away. The spectacular pieces in this collection were at times wearable but for the most part… they seemed over the top and more like costumes than men’s apparel.
That being said… would I wear them? YES! I loved nearly every single look. From the hats with feathers to the coats made to look like dresses I ate it up like low-fat frozen yogurt with a graham cracker crumb base.
I honestly didn’t understand the cod pieces but I suppose that’s an ode to military garb rather than an ode to Britney Spears… Which may have been what I thought at first… may have been… (*I totally did!)
