Supermodels and Super Fabulous Outfits for Atelier Versace Haute Couture Spring 2013
I know this isn’t the first show I should be reviewing from today’s assortment of haute couture that showed in Paris but I am swooning hard for the plush furs, elaborate metal work and super A-list models that walked the runway for Donatella. The high profile models consisted of Joan Smalls, Karie Kloss, and Kristen McMenamy who’s past consisted of being pretty much the muse of the Gianni Versace collection that was responsible for creating one of the most powerful fashion houses in the world. It was great to see her strutting her slender body down a familiar catwalk.
Spring 2013 consisted of the usual bright golds, strong metal inserts throughout the collection and of course the iconic Medusa logo which was placed on accessories but not overdone. There was intense feelings of warrior pride exuding from the models as they stomped around the stage in chainmail and… well, armor. Strength and beauty meet in a gorgeous collaboration of womenswear and women’s battle gear.
Shoes for the collection were truly unique and had an almost bent heel that curved inward toward the toe box. The sandals also had an extended sole in the front that jutted out in gold looking like a knife from a spy shoe. Their upper material was a clear plastic which looked mod… but cheap. Of course they’ll be anything but cheap when they hit the stores and when worn with any of the Versace looks including the gleaming gold blazer/dress, they will shine.
It’s really too bad this line isn’t ready-to-wear because it would do really well in stores. Hopefully, the Fall 2013 RTW collection will be similarly designed because everyone knows that designers don’t make money on couture collections… At least not that much anyhow.
P.S. I love this yellow fur piece as well as the intricate details on the black dress.
