There is nothing safe about safety pins! Christophe Decarnin gave the old-punk-rock-look a serious glam-confident facelift in this year’s Balmain RTW spring collection. There was nothing lacking as the girls came stomping down the runway. Independent. Sexy. Confident. What girl doesn’t what to be that? And isn’t that just the seduction of Balmain. He shows women who they want to be – strong, confident, and ultra sexy. The best part is that through the hard edge there is this relaxed ease. Women don’t have to do anything but wear Balmain and the phrase “I’m just naturally this hot” becomes redundant. It’s obvious.
There was a little controversy surrounding the strong confederate states feeling in not only in the color choices but the blatant tribute to the United States flag in faded stars and stripes throughout this collection. Now I am Canadian but I’ll admit – it was hot. I was drooling all over these looks – in an independent, sexy, confident way of course.
Ultimately the Balmain Spring 2011 RTW collection makes me want to cut up all my clothes, dye them and re-stitch them back together using nothing but studs and safety pins. Somehow the end product, I fear would be much less successful. My feeble attempts would lack a certain drippy, studded, tied-dyed bad-assery aspect that Balmain dished out on that Paris runway! Can’t wait to see what’s coming next! Balmain has definitely earned my attention.
