85th Annual Academy Awards Red Carpet Best and Worst
I was actually surprised at the number of great looks this year at the Oscars. I remember last year being beside myself at the number of terrible gowns and poorly styled looks but this year there seemed to be only a few. Mind you, some were so horrifically bad that they were literally like watching a speeding train hitting a school bus in slow motion over and over again, but I’ll get to those in a minute. First, the best look in ascending order.
Fourth Best Dressed – Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta
It’s hard to place her in fourth because I actually loved this Oscar de la Renta dress so much, but when I look at the other best dressed celebs I have to say this was my fourth favorite. The flowing train and silken heaven was a sight to behold. Amy’s delicate nature went well with the frothy colorless silk that the piece was made of. Nude was a trend of Oscars past but this year it was nearly grey, but not grey enough to be called putty. It was… colorless.
Third Best Dressed – Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture
The only way to look at this dress is head on. If you pan down slowly you’re like wow what is happening to her body. It’s morphing into a giant Wal-Mart shopper. But then you see the completed look and are swept away into the world of luxuriously molded couture that only Raf Simons could have created for the Oscar nominated super star of Silver Linings Playbook. I was tempted to place her at number two because of her down to Earth sensibility, but then panned down slowly and left her at third best.
Second Best Dressed – Zoe Saldana in Alexis Mabille Couture
I loved this dress. When Zoe first walked out in it I just tweeted “Yes” with no reference to the actual look but everyone knew exactly what I was talking about. This dress was perfection. It was sewn in a way that made the silk ruffling look effortless while the floral embellishments on the top held femininity and a feeling of providence in it’s botanical grasp. Just breathtaking.
Best Dressed – Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture
As I was watching the 85th Annual Academy Awards my good friend texted me and said that Charlize Theron’s dress was this years Gwenyth Paltrow’s Tom Ford look. The Dior couture shapely corset was crafted exactly for her fit figure and accentuated all the most glamorous areas that should be accentuated. Even with her short boyish pixie-cut and semi-cleavageless dress, she still won the award for most feminine as well as best dressed person there.
Without a doubt, Charlize Theron was the ultimate best dressed woman at the Oscars.
