Burberry Prorsum Cruise 2013
The last several collections of Burberry Prorsum have been chalk full of cuteness and details that embellished the collections just enough to be cute but not over done. The looks for Resort 2013 were handled in a fashion that is lacklustre compared to previous seasons in that the line was a little less colorful, a little less fun, a little less whimsical, and a little less creative.
Not that the looks were terrible or even bad but they can only be compared to the last collection and they seemed drab and dull save a few ruffled waisted pants, and a peplum here and there. The soft browns took the collection to an autumn place as opposed to a ship at sea for the Cruise season. Sweaters with heavy knits were made that were more fitting under a parka than in the luggage of a Caribbean jet-setter. The cropped jackets and slim arms allowed for a sleek looking collection but again the coloring was strangely dark. Where other lines are sending bright colors out onto the runway Christopher Bailey has retreated into the shadows and where once was light, only darkness can be found.
The look book was also shot in an odd light that made the clothes appear unlaundered and grubby. The grunge look has not been in style since the 90’s and thank heavens for that, let’s hope Bailey doesn’t send us back to the dirt ages.
The only truly saleable pieces were in the evening portion of the line where lighter slim cut dresses and metallic high waisted cocktails were seen, but even those seemed sexed up on top with a corset like bodice but then ballooned out with oversized pleats the protruded from the waist. Not his best collection that is for sure but hopefully his past triumphs will allow for a grandiose Fall 2013 collection?
