The cleanliness at Calvin Klein appeared a bit sterile but the clean lines were just what Fall 2012 needs.
Starting from the sharp cut bobs the collection felt as though it was much more similar to a Jil Sander presentation complete with minimalistic looking runway than the Calvin Klein shows shown in the past few seasons. Regardless the looks were wearable, well-tailored, and cut from the prettiest colors to grace Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week yet.
Interestingly a metallic belt was added to many of the looks and did its job at cutting the silhouettes in half. The overall shape of the looks was flattering because of the cinched waist and form-fitting seams. There was a lot of structure in the shoulders and arms which introduced a harshness to the looks while adding an element of masculinity to the collection.
The designer Francisco Costa played with interesting fabric choices for the evening portion of the Fall 2012 line and added plunging necklines to a couple of the final looks. All in all the evening wear was severely lacking and looked lumpy and matronly. To have such strong looks for day then trail off for the finale was a disappointment. Hopefully next season great looks will be consistent throughout the show.
