Chanel Spring 2012 Collection
Karl hit it out of the… erm, sea with the Spring 2012 Ready-to-wear Chanel collection! If the oversized sea horse wasn’t enough, the performance by Florence and the Machine certainly pushed the show over the edge.
Celebs, celebs, celebs! Well that is what a show this grandeous draws no? From Uma Therman, to Princess Siriwanwaree of Thailand the high profile’s of the world drop what they are doing for Chanel.
The Grand Palais in Paris was transformed into an underwater world of epic proportion complete with surrounding walls of faux water, massive sea shells, and bubbles bubbles bubbles!
Mr. Lagerfeld wanted to capture the essence of the ocean before humans had the opportunity to taint it with their pollutions bla bla bla. The result: an all white oversized bottom of the ocean complete with Botticelli’s Birth of Venus but in place of the goddess, Florence Welch stood atop a scallop shell. With a harpist to her right and random hottie (Baptiste Giabiconi?) in snug shorts to her left Florence belted out “What the Water Gave Me”… how appropriate.
Amongst all the hoop-la; there were some clothes.
Saskia de Brauw opened the show in a short delicate white jacket and dress with a string of pearls draped around her neck. So perfectly elegant and Chanel! The show continued on this way with lots of cropped jackets, tweed style skirts, and cute spring dresses all in the light palate of spring’s colors. Though water colors are a big theme for Spring 2012, Chanel’s colors were more on the flourishing florals side of things upon a base of light pastels. In the trend department Karl used many sheer materials and full skirts which we also saw at Alexander McQueen and throughout the Fashion week’s for Spring 2012.
Though the show was indeed epic, it was somewhat dwarfed by the massive stage and overwhelming theatrics at hand. Altogether it was a great performance if nothing else.
