Children’s Wear Fashion Trend
Children themselves topped the celeb trend list a couple years ago when simply having kids was the thing to do but now that the children are all growing past their layette stage and into ages where they get to pick and choose their own clothes, high fashion designers are doing everything they can to get these toddlers into their designer labels.
Just last month Oscar de la Renta announced the launch of his children’s wear collection and most recently celebrity designers Gwen Stefani and Victoria Beckham are launching their own children’s lines that were undoubtedly inspired by their own tiny tots. Gwen Stefani is calling her kids line ‘Harajuku Mini’ which will be launched through Target stores while Beckham is ripping a page out of the past and decided to call her line ‘Baby Posh’.
Other designers to do children’s wear this past year have been Lanvin, Stella McCartney (who partnered up with Gap), and Gucci. Rachel Zoe leads the pack for children’s wear at spending a recorded $90,000 on her little style icon of a baby, Skylar Berman. She loves to buy him Missoni printed pieces, Tod’s loafers, a Gucci leather bomber jacket, and a few Hermes pieces just to name a few. The shopaholic mom is literally obsessed with the children’s wear trend and has even built baby Skylar his own walk in closet to house his precious pieces.
The children’s wear business is booming and though the marriage rate is declining, the birth rate remains the same so that means less money spent on significant others but more money spent on designer clothes for kids… and yourself of course.
