This time of year makes us all a little crazy and picking out what to wear can be tricky business. Here is what I wore to my Christmas party this evening and these are the shots from the elevator ride down from my place to the lobby of my building (so… a 1 minute photo shoot).
I decided on PS Paul Smith tuxedo jacket because of it’s traditional look but super slim fit. The shirt and matching pocket square is from Modern Tailor where they made the shirt custom for me complete with my initials on the cuff!
Dark denim was chosen for the bottoms because of the location the event was being held at (a nightclub). I completed the look with a black with silver “H” Hermes belt and patent leather Gucci loafers. The socks were especially chosen for the outfit because of the pop of purple in the tartan of the shirt, purple pinstripe socks from Duchamp.
There is something to be said about the details of an outfit and the accessories I picked out complimented the style of dress as well as the color palate. I wore a .5 carat amethyst in my ear and purple gemmed cufflinks in the french cuffs. as a neck accent I decided to skip the tie / bow tie and go with a necklace. Normally I very much like dressing to the 9’s and donning a sharp tie but this night called for some Tiffany & Co.. The Tiffany 1837™ interlocking circles pendant was just the piece for this look. Not too much and when someone noticed (which they did) it was almost always met with a gushing compliment.
I recommend wearing something you feel comfortable in and try to not match your date too well. Nothing scarier than the “We get two of EVERYTHING couple.” At the same time try to look like you are going to the same party. If he is wearing tux pants then wear a full length gown or something equally as dressy. Alternatively, if she is wearing short cut booty shorts, then pop on a pair of cotton capri’s and don’t forget to send me the invite to that party!
Here is a quick pick you up if you are stressed and looking for something to wear right now:
Last word of advice, dress up! You can never be too overdressed unless you are wearing a wedding dress in which case you have other problems that my blog cannot help you with. But seriously, dressing up will show your work you care (earning you brownie points) and everyone looks good with a satin sash or a slimming cummerbund.
