DKNY Cruise 2013
Black has already been noted as a trend coming out of resort 2013 but DKNY took dark beauties to a whole new level with 85% of their collection being from the dark side of the moon. With dark colors comes the challenge of adding depth to the clothing but while most lines start with daywear and progress from there, DKNY starts the party with a long tux jacket with satin lapels, and a silky black shirt. The difference in fabric texture leads the eye to the face, creates an air of elegance, and ups the anti on any function.
When the line did use colors it as in the form of bold prints that were of magenta, black and white florals, red, and orange. The bold print theme is also taking over Resort 2013 and fashion houses everywhere are adopting the motto the bolder the better. Just Cavalli is another cruise collection for 2013 that took the wild road to raging prints and opted for a cataclysmic clash of animals and plants and the end result was ready for any club around the world. Not to mention the high cut hemlines of the pieces which the DKNY collection had in spades.
Short shorts, short skirts, and short dresses were seen throughout the collection in feathers, metallics, and leather looking shorts. The message was clear: Go short or go home. The answer to those who don’t feel comfortable wearing the equivalent of that of a street walker? Opaque leggings on every look from flower dresses, and crop pants, to business dresses in magenta with a peplum that Christian Dior would have been proud of. but whether it be summer shorts, or nude suits, an opaque tight takes precedence.
A lot of the looks were cut at odd lengths and made the models look frumpy and awkward but at least the line is reaching for that ready-to-wear feeling as opposed to the cheap and cheerful feeling of their earlier collections.
