Emu-zing Skin Care
I was thrilled to hear that a new line of skin care has been created that is regenerative, restorative, hypoallergenic and obviously moisturizing. It’s made from Emu Oil!
I’ll be completely honest, I didn’t know Emu’s made oil… or that it could be used in skin care.. and I certainly didn’t know it could be made into things like soap, moisturizer and even have medical uses to soothe back pain and stop the itching of Eczema. But, for the past couple weeks I’ve been using the oil on my face, body, lips and with no reactions or breakouts to report, I’m here to tell you Emu’s are awesome.
The oil is collected from the fat of the emu and the emollient qualities work wonders for so many ailments. I’ve always suffered from dryness on my hands and elbows so I opted to try something a little stronger and last year used a chemical product to save my skin. It made things worse. I cracked and it took almost the entire winter to heal. Filler chemicals, in over-the-counter drugs and prescription ointments and salves can cause serious reactions to your skin and can be dangerous if overused. Applying known cures like cortisone and immunosuppressants for dermatitis is what a doctor will recommend, but why put yourself at risk if you don’t have to? My dryness is completely gone after using the EMU oil for only 2 short weeks.
The main benefit to me was that it healed my dry chapped skin, but moreover, I didn’t break out. A lot of products claim to be hypoallergenic but my overly sensitive skin always reacts to them. I break out, develop cracks in my skin and overtime the dry skin flakes off. Very attractive…
Story time: the other day I ran into a friend I haven’t seen for about a month and she couldn’t stop gushing about my “perfect skin.” I think using the word “miracle” is a stretch because I still have some marks and blemishes that I would normally get with my insanely high dark chocolate diet and Bikram Yoga regime. But the glow and elasticity in my skin has changed and looks amazing.
And shockingly, I’m not perfect, there are times I have to rush out the door in the morning and don’t have time to scrub, cleanse, tone, moisturize, and apply sunscreen to my face as frequently as I probably should. I’m also definitely guilty of getting in late the odd night here or there and simply falling asleep well before I get to wash off the grime of the day. But even with all that skin torture… today skin still looks great and I think I have some flightless birds to thank.
