FLARE Magazine, with a focus on talented Canadian’s and their role in the local and international stage of art, fashion, entertainment, and with some of the best articles on health and beauty; it’s no wonder they have well over 135 thousand subscribers.
I started reading FLARE long before becoming the Marquis of Fashion. In fact, I was about nine years old when I picked up my first copy from a grocery store. It was not unlike the little speech that Nigel gives Andy in the devil wears Prada:
“This is not just a magazine. This is a shining beacon of hope for… oh, I don’t know… let’s say a young boy growing up in [Edmonton, Alberta] with [one] brothers pretending to go to soccer practice when he was really going to sewing class and reading [Flare] under the covers at night with a flashlight”
FLARE was catalyst, it peaked my interest in fashion and gave me a glimpse into a world filled with abounding inspiration, colourful insights and seemingly limitless possibility. So you can imagine how ridiculously excited I was when I received this email:
“…On October 19, FLARE will be celebrating Canadian fashion by wearing and showing off a few of our favourite pieces at Toronto Fashion Week …we’d like to include a few of our favourite bloggers “
Without further ado here is a photo of the piece, for the full article, click here.
The objective was to feature my favorite Canadian designer(s) but with so much talent coming out of Canada it was a difficult decision. After much debate I went with Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared². They are after all, two of Canada’s most successful contemporary designers and their collection is the perfect blend of North American/Canadian pop culture and exquisite Italian tailoring.

Since I know I am going to get a bunch of email asking what I am wearing (PS I love those email, so keep ’em coming) here it is:
- Leather-Front Blazer, Poplin Suspenders Sportshirt, and Straight-Leg Jeans, all from the Dsquared² Fall 2011 collection.
- Shoes: Prada Pull-On Ankle Boot
- Accessories: Gucci belt and Ray-Ban Aviators
