Frida Giannini produced a wonderful collection that is worthy of archiving due to the special anniversary and all the immaculate detailing. Closures that looked like Cartier jewelry, bags made from the finest animal skins, and fringe detailing on clothes that were hand finished with laser tools. Who needs a cake when you have the Gucci Spring 2012 fashion collection?
The collection was full of linear lines the crisscrossed to make geometric patterns on jackets and dresses. Fringe made an appearance at this collection in the form of long floor sweeping silk as well as fine laser cut leather that was as an inch short but maintained the freedom to move as though they were glass beads dangling on filament. Bold green, glorious gold, and stunning silver carried this collection into evening where things started getting a little wild.
The tribal theme that was present at Donna Karan, Michael Kors, and Burberry Prorsum for Spring 2012 would most definitely be at the Gucci show. Tribal certainly reared its way into the show but in a very “Gucci” kind of way. The prints on loose fitting jackets were those that resembled giraffe hide and a rendition of grayscale cheetah print. Mesh fabric was another trend shown at Gucci and was used on almost half of the garments. If there is one trend to invest in this upcoming Spring 2012 it would definitely be mesh. Mesh animal print if you can find it but otherwise a mix of the two will do nicely.
Though the 20’s were an obvious inspiration (because Gucci was created in 1921) Giannini never failed to keep the collection sharp as a thumbtack and on trend with where things in fashion were going.
