Careful… The Bank May Call From All This Spending
It is quickly approaching my absolute favorite time of year… (it technically comes twice a year)… but it’s SALE TIME! And no, I don’t mean the 20%-35% off piddly crap you find at most fast fashion retailers, I’m talking the juicy 60% and up off the retail price you find from shopping all day or days. I’m going to tell you of all the amazing deals I got in the last few years just to show you how to do it and how to stick to your guns and get the sales I know are out there.
I thrive on great deals but don’t let that make you think I’m cheap or stick to some sort of budget. I shop for incredible pieces at incredible deals but more importantly, when I find the deals and they fit, I buy them. For example one year ago I bought a black tux McQueen dinner jacket for $300! The original price was $2300! That’s 13% of the original ticketed price! OMG! I tweeted the sh*t outta that!
Then there was the Dior Homme jacket I picked up for a whopping 87% off at Holt Renfrew. It was white and fit perfectly but more than that, it was clean! How did a beautiful jacket like this make it all the way to super sale time and stay brilliantly white? It didn’t stay white for long but damn did it look good for three weeks!
Thrift shopping is a super sale shoppers best friend but since I don’t typically like wearing hand me downs (second child syndrome) I generally avoid thrift stores but I’m glad I stepped into this thrift store in Toronto with some shopping pals a few months ago. Thrift shops are great for fur and I can attest to that times one hundred! I got… a sable fur structured stole in pristine blonde color for… get this… Wait! first I have to tell you this type of fur in the stores would easily go for $10,000+ but I got it for… $100!
The lady at the desk didn’t have to tell me it was final sale. Hell I didn’t even take my receipt! I was like “I’ll wear it out!”
Given that the fur was second hand I attribute my next all time best super sale buy as the icing on the proverbial cake. The one that wins them all. The sale shop of the century. So there I was shopping the Room when there it was… Fall 2012’s Proenza Schouler leather woven jacket. Yes, it is a women’s jacket… yes it was $6400 retail… yes, it was in my size!
I tried it on with insane anticipation. Will it fit in the arms? Will it be too short? Can I even pull this off? And how much has it been reduced to?
Finally I got it on. #Amaze! I’m in #LOVE!
Now for the generally heart-wrenching part – the price. I gingerly flip over the tag and take a peek with nervous eyes.
Reduced to $499.99!
I do a little dance, I gasp like a girl and a nauseated feeling overwhelms me. I hold onto the jacket with a white-knuckle grip as I catch my breath. When I finally regain my composure I walk to the counter and cautiously hand it over to the sales clerk. She looks at my pale face oddly then scans the coat in… It’s an additional 20% off the last ticketed price (which makes it 6.25% of the retail price! AKA I saved $6000!)!
Three things happened simultaneously. I literally nearly faint while tweeting and throwing money at her.
When I am sure I can walk with relative ease I run out of the store screaming “START THE CAR! START THE CAR!”
Photo shoot of this insane jacket to come…
