Joseph Altuzarra Designs J. Crew Capsule Collection
There is no question that CFDA winner Joseph Altuzarra is the perfect designer to blast off and reaches for the skies when it comes to collaborations and large scale inspirational creations. It’s no wonder the prestigious CFDA board picked Altuzarra in the first place. His mind works in a way that is cutting edge, full of embellishments, and is no stranger to asymmetrical hemlines. His ability to add an additional layer of flair to a garment that was fabulous to begin with results is a no less than a perfect ready to wear collection. However for those not interested or unable to obtain his high fashion line, you are in luck!
Joseph Altuzarra has jumped in bed with J. Crew and the pictures have just been released. If you are a regular at J. Crew, you know that the price point is great, the quality is acceptable, but the cuts are faultless. The capsule collection was limited to a handful of fabrics including a light blue gingham, navy and white striped cashmere and cotton, and a dark washed denim. Not a broad spectrum to work with but Altuzarra managed to create a 7 piece collection that could be worn into summer and into fall. The cashmere sweater he designed with small pulls all over the body is the edgiest of the pieces and the infrequent striping adds to its cool factor.
Though the collection will be released tomorrow online and in Manhattan J. Crew flagship store April 23rd. Joseph Altuzarra stated that the collection was inspired by “Brigitte Bardot in Saint-Tropez and French preppy style” but will this endearing inspiration coupled with Altuzarra’s name carry this line to success? It is hard to say. The simplicity of these pieces are very different from Joseph’s own namesake label which poses the question where is Altuzarra amidst all this sky blue gingham? Hopefully his exposure through Vogue and the buzz surrounding the designer in the blogosphere will lead this collection to success.
