The always over the top Karl Lagerfeld has been full of surprises lately, from designing a limited edition collection of Coca Cola bottles, to Volkswagen commercial. But this newest advertising venture is by far the most surprising.
Karl Lagerfeld teamed up with actress Rachel Bilson for a three part commercial series for Magnum Ice Cream. The sweet dessert has made its way to the US from the UK and is doing so in ultimate style. The first installation of the three part series entitled Photo Mood, portrays Bilson as a supermodel on the set of a photo shoot. She is so enamored with a Magnum Ice Cream bar that she holds up the shoot to indulge like a bad model wished they could. It’s a little far fetched, since we know for a fact Magnum Bars is the farthest thing from what they would serve on a photo shoot set, but for some reason, if it has Karl Lagerfeld’s name attached to it, I am interested.
The first commercial debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York and all the most important people in fashion were there to show their support to Lagerfeld, including Anna Wintour (I am pretty sure she doesn’t even know what ice cream is but it was nice to see her out supporting The Lagerfeld). When talking to the New York Times as to why the designer, who is the Creative Director of Chanel (like you didn’t already know that), was dabbling in all these different artistic expressions he indicated that he didn’t want to get bored doing one artistic medium forever:
- I love my job in fashion. I love my job as a photographer, but making films was something I hadn’t done. If I was isolated in one job, I would get bored.
Well, it certainly seems like Karl Lagerfeld is bigger and hotter than ever.
