The collection was dynamic as per Lida Baday’s usual style but this collection was both on trend and sex-sex-sexy!
The Radzimir fabric that Lida loves to use is made with a mixture of metallic threads and is used to create the stiff malleable ruffles and paper bag like folds and creases in her dresses and blouses. The necklines of the dresses in the Spring 2012 collection were sexy and feminine while maintaining their architectural feel from the stiff fabrics.
The only thing I would add to this show would be a mix of complimenting colors. The orange used on some of the dresses was the perfect pop color for the season and this collection, but I would have liked to see more purples and shimmering whites. Lida is known for her strong jewel tone colors so maybe this season she wanted to work in some new pop colors and take a break from her norm.
One of the main patterns in this collection was the white with black strokes, almost as if swiped with a paint brush. It almost took on a Zebra quality and which falls under the animal print category, which is also a huge mega-trend for Spring 2012.
At the end of the day I hope shoppers at Holt Renfrew make their way to the Lida department to pick up some pieces just beware: If you get near me the dry cleaning bill may be quite large because I will drool all over you!
