Today we had the luxxury (HAHA) of talking with Derek Jagodzinsky in his studio about his Spring 2012 collection that will walk the runway September 2011 at Western Canada Fashion Week.
The overall theme for Derek’s fashion collection is Lady-like LUXX. What does that mean? Put it this way – in order to be a LUXX lady you have to remember that less is more, practicality is key, and comfort is mandatory. Sounds great doesn’t it? Another aspect of the line is that all of the pieces in the LUXX collection are built with real integrity and skill. That means you are really going to get garments that were sewn from the inside out and that you can literally feel the craftsmanship.
Gun metal grey suiting, paired with sculptural separates will be the key components of the fashion show. These, coupled with his Asian inspiration for this season are going to look great on the catwalk.

Above is a perfect example of how Derek’s inspiration has taken what could have been a straight cut piece of suiting to a real piece of art. This collection reminds me of the saying the “Devil is in the details”. Another detail that takes this jacket to a place of high fashion is the open shoulders and the lapel. The shoulders allow this piece to make a statement about spring regardless of the neutral color. The back of the neck is collarless because the faux shawl collar is combined into the shoulder seam and then drapes down the bodice.
For pop Jagodzinsky is using lavish stretch velvet in bright apricot and a piercing red silk that will be used on his evening gowns. Needless to say I am really looking forward to seeing his collection Spetember 28, 2011.
