Though it seemed very likely that Marc Jacobs would aquire the Dior throne after John Galliano disgraced himself and lost everything. Christian Dior has been without a head designer for almost a full year which has tainted the precise designs that have come from the house over the last couple seasons. It was leaked that Marc Jacobs was most certainly going to get the position which would mean he would pass on the head designer position of Louis Vuitton but there was apparently already a replacement set up for him.
Recently WWD has reported that:
“Dior has quietly stepped up the pace and depth of negotiations with other designers.”
Meaning that Jacobs is out of the running as Christian Dior’s next head designer. They go on to say:
“It is understood Alexander Wang, Raf Simons and Jason Wu are among some of the candidates recently approached, with Riccardi Tisci still in the mix but viewed as an unlikely appointment, given his strong momentum as Givenchy’s couturier.”
It is unfortunate that Riccardo Tisci may be overlooked by Dior because of his success with his couture label (Givenchy). LVMH should honor Tisci and hand him the coveted designer position because of his success not the other way around. Dior needs someone with extremely discerning design abilities and an ability to make the nearly impossible happen; make a couture label successful.
