The entire Marc Jacobs collection was reportedly stolen while in transit from Paris to New York!
Marc Jacob’s PR people canceled the Press Day today “due to the theft of the spring/summer 2012 collections during its transfer from Paris.” What this means for the company is an increase in expenses as the samples were likely one of a kind and may have been sold, scheduled for shoots, lined up for celebrities to wear etc. They may have to pause production of their Fall 2012 collection to produce the samples for such occasions.
In truth it is likely that they already have most of it produced for sale as it should be in stores for January. But it is still a huge cost to take Ready-To-Wear pieces that were going to be sold for company profit and give them away in place of samples.
Best of luck to the Marc Jacobs team in this no doubt frustrating time.
What do you think the thief will do with the shiny collection of paillette covered skirts and crocodile handbags!? Make duplicates? Sell them on the black market? Ransom the pieces back one by one? What do you think?
