BFA and Pitti Immagine Menswear Shows Overlap for January 2013
The British Fashion Council has posted it’s schedule which will land right in the mddle of the Pitti Immagine schedule. This means most of the buyers, models, bloggers, and show attendees will have to choose one or the other to go to making it a complete loss for both parties.
A while back London women’s collections were compromised because Paris moved itss dates back a week making Milan do the same which crammed London into the Milan schedule. There was serious unrest and much internal fighting including some strong words from the Milan fashion council. Luckily New York moved their week back so London could fit into the new time spot.
It is surpriing that they are so unwilling to move their dates now that they are imposing on another men’s world fashion event. Perhaps they can move it if only because they were treated fairly by New York Fashion Week? Of course Milan and London have been going at it for some time for these schedules so perhaps not.
The shows in London will be shown January 7th to the 9th and the main men’s shows in Milan will be January 8th to the 11th. The CEO of Pitti Immagine, Raffaello Napoleone, had this to say when interviewed by WWD –
“In what is such a delicate moment for half of the world’s economies, while fashion fair organizers are all working hard to draw up an international calendar that will increase the efficiency and coherence of the work carried out by buyers and journalists and, at the same time, minimize costs, it seems that the board of the BFC is taking none of this into account.”
It can’t be too far off in the future that the schedule will have to change as designers are already having casting calls and the shows are well into production. Not to mention the show invites… what will they say!? Hopefully this is all sorted out soon or many people will miss out on a some great shows.
