The Met Gala 2012
The Met Gala is a thing of splendiferous beauty that attracts the worlds highest level of celebrity, top photographers, and even Mick Jagger! The Met Gala this year was unlike any before in that it was live streamed and every slip on the stairs, every stomp on a train, and every vulgar word shouted out by the photographers was caught on tape and streamed live to the public. Although it will likely be pushed to be live streaming again next year, it is likely that Anna would like to have the contrary.
Anna Wintour, Editor of American Vogue and serves as a trustee at The Met Museum (Metropolitan Museum of Art) in New York where the magnificent gala is held annually. Her outfit this year was by Prada of course and the white fur was as stunning as it was voluminous. Her outfit was similar to her look back in 2003 where the famed Wintour wore a white fur goat hair stole/jacket. Regardless all eyes were on Anna as she entered the Museum first and greeted every guest that stepped into the building.
The event aparently raised $11 million this year alone which is close to the amount raised in the previous 10 years. The Met Gala is a hot hit that brings both the highest paid celebs in the entertainment business but also the most expensive clothes on the market. From Atelier Versace, to Alexander McQueen, Givenchy Couture, and of course, Prada.
The event tonight was to focus on the similarities of the great Italian Designer Elsa Shiaparelli and Prada’s head designer Miuccia Prada. The premise was to create an impossible conversation between the two and to discern how the two come to a similar place b approaching it from two very different angels. The exhibition was previewed by many of the guests who attended the affair but some of the rooms of the exhibit were completed that morning so it was a new experience for everyone.
Since Prada was the woman in charge it is no wonder that so many of the downs were hand picked from her Spring 2012 collection and fitted to stars such as Gwenyth Paltrow, Jennifer Meyer (Toby Maguire’s wife), Eva Mendes, Diane Kruger, Kate Bosworth, Jessica Biel, and Claire Danes’ husband Hugh Dancy. That may seem like a lot of people wearing Prada but there were so many other people that really it was only a deliciously bejewelled and slim piece of the whole pie.
This year it was a great surprise to see many designers walking the red carpet as well including Tom Ford, Olivier Theyskens, Valentino Garavani, Carolina Herrera, Vera Wang, Sarah Burton, Donatella Versace, Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, and others. It appeared as though the red carpet would overflow into the photographers pit at some points until the ushers cranked it into overtime and nearly had to drag and push the celebrities into their proper locations.
