Missoni mens fall 2012 fashion collection:
January 15 2012, set in the former bell foundry west of Milan’s gargantuan central train station:
While Missoni may be one of the leading fashion houses in Milan fashion week, they fell behind this season with their reinterpretation of British style.
Missoni is arguably one of Italy’s more innovative knitwear labels, insistently recognized for their use of color and geometric prints. This season, however, was a departure from the much loved Missoni quality and consisted of classic Anglo knitted outfits . From patchwork vests reminiscent of Dorset farmers , to dinner/smoking jackets of English gentry and knitted pin-stripe suits for gentlemen.
Whether the display of white Outsoled sneakers, whose Vamp (upper part of the shoe) was in knitted black wool streaming with golden highlights or the subtle embellishment of gold details on polished shirt collars was an attempt of British fashion’s sartorial humor or some classic Missoni coming through was unclear and seemed slightly out of place. Some points shone through, the use of gold and muddied nylon prints has been a gaining momentum as a firm trend for men’s fall 2012.
Though it is only natural that a label as industrious as Missioni seek to reinvent itself, this Italian, British mash-up of style was lost in translation.
