South Africa’s beloved former president is using the number that once marked him an inmate to now bring awareness. How is this possible you ask? The answer is simple, Fashion.
46664, the number Mandela wore as an inmate in prison for 27 years will now be a fashion label. Nelson Mandela’s Aids Charity 46664 has made the decision after much deliberation as to how to bring in a steady flow of money into the charity.
The line will be be called 46664 Apparel will not only bring in money for the Aids charity, something so near and dear to so many people, but it will also add to the countries fashion industry. The clothes of 46664 Apparel will be designed by the South African Textile manufacturer Seardel, and will carry both men’s and women’s clothing ranging from Ready-to-Wear all the way to Couture pieces.
The clothing label will be launched in South Africa in August and will begin with a store in Johannesburg with anticipated stores opening in the UK and US later next year.
