New York Fashion Week by High Fashion and Commercial Fashion Shows

In two short days you will be bombarded with fashion show after fashion show but which ones will be on your hot list and which ones should you avoid?

Ultimately it realy depends on your preferred fashion, do you like high fashion for exclusive reasons, or the more commercial collections because that’s what will actually be in the department stores where you live? Either way, fashion week is one of the trickiest ties of year and New York Fashion Week is the most difficult to navigate out of all the fashion weeks. If it’s London you may have a difficult finding out who the designers are, whereas Milan has more scheduling conflicts than the FOX network, and Paris has the language barrier (unless you speak perfect Parisian French of course). But even taking all of that into consideration, New York has the most diversity in the shows which therefore creates the difficult question of “Who should I see at New York Fashion Week?” Well here is a simple breakdown of the shows that are more commercial versus those shows regarded as high fashion.New York Fashion Week Shows

As you can tell from this short list New York has it’s fair share of High fashion and commercially driven collections. This is simply a guideline in which you can use to guide your way through all the shows and get see the merchandise on models months before it hits the store so you know exactly what to increase your clothing and accessories budget to for Fall 2013.

I highly recommend seeing as many shows as humanly possible but do yourself a favor and bring an tablet or at the very least a smart phone so you can take notes during the show to you remember what to buy and what to discard. A show lasts upwards of half an hour (or more) so do yourself the courtesy and narrow the search when you are looking at the collection later on the Marquis of Fashion’s Fashion Collections site or when you are in the store and the merch is hitting the floor.

The last reason it is wise to take notes is because you can then go into your favorite store and tell your sales rep t contact you when your swag comes in. This way you will likely know if they even picked up those pieces in their buy. It’s a win win.
