Real Sports – Unreal Food
The Raptors, Leafs and Jays are all great teams but… that opinion changes depending on who you ask. What doesn’t change is the excuse they give us to go out and have a good time. Even when I was a kid going to a baseball game, I associate the thought of watching them hit a homer with the taste of hot dogs and popcorn. Now my palate has expanded to include cocktails and lager, but food and sports still go hand-in-hand. Today, my go-to spot for good eats with sports is obviously Real Sports Bar and Grill in Toronto. Their menu, or “Playbook,” has everything you’d need to celebrate a win, or handle a loss with dignity.
I went there last year in the off-season as a kickoff for a friend’s Bachelor party. The place wasn’t nearly as crazy as when a game is on, but the food and drink were still top quality and the night went on and on… and on. The game is always a good distraction, but there are times when catching up with friends over a beer with no distractions is great.
Don’t get me wrong, I was still distracted by the nacho plate, popcorn chicken, fish tacos and turkey burger. Oh, and poutine with real cheese curds… drool… and spinach dip… and a kale salad… k that’s all… and don’t get me started on the drinks. Their cocktails are sports-themed and pack a serious punch. Like the drink called the #Winner which had caffeine, sports drink, fruit juice and vodka! I feel like my life started at that moment…. well, my night certainly did.
To be honest, the craziness of Jurassic Park (the spot to be outside the ACC where fans can watch the game)… all those people… it can get to be a bit much. I think I prefer the giant television at Real Sports Bar and Grill all to myself during game time but also during off-season.
Speaking of “all to myself,” I got to sit in a booth that had its very own draft tap! Your very own draft tap! I’ve never seen that before! I also learned that I suck at pouring beer. But that didn’t stop me from giving pints that were half head to all my friends. Whatever! Beer’s Beer!
