Rodarte: Spring 2012
The Mulleavy sisters (or sister as only Laura Mulleavy took a bow at the end of the show) pressed the snooze button on their latest collection.
Spring 2012 has been full of dynamite shows and a fashion show can only be compared to those that surround it and this collection was seriously lacking. Bright colors drew you into this collection but the lack of creativity and newness was very apparent. Rodarte is known for it’s truly amazing creations that inspire and move others to live their life in art. This collection however missed the mark in a big way.
The styling which was soft hair and a very out of place Gothic eye, was as confused as the tacky sunflower fabric that resembled wallpaper. Not only did the looks not jive, but they seemed ill-made and like a bunch of material was slapped together with a nail-gun and with utter disregard for subtlety or cohesion.
The Vincent van Gogh references were obvious but done so poorly and really looked like a students first stab at a fashion collection.
I have to give credit where credit it due though. The last two outfits were the only looks that jived with the styling and one can only hope that these are the only dresses that make it onto the street. The rest should only be seen at parties such as The All-in Indie Incinerator and The Derelict Diva Dumpster Dive.
