Shearling is the Muhammad Ali against cold weather
Beating out regular old leather by a L-O-N-G shot, shearling will always be there to keep you warm and toasty up to -30°. After that you need some kind of down filler, but until that temperature slaps you like a cold fish in the morning… keep rocking shearling. Remember in Star Wars when Luke got into that Tauntaun in the freezing cold… well anyway that sticky scene was, in part, based on fact. The skin and fur of the animal (albeit a fictional one) protected Skywalker from the cold much in the same way a shearling coat would… minus the entrails and misc. nastiness.
Keeping warm with a shearling coat is one thing but having the luxury of shearling shoes is like having your cake, eating it, and finding out there are no calories. I’ll have seconds! The “utter bliss” factor comes from shielding yourself from the wind, wet and cold of winter while trapping in the heat in a densely padded cushion of plush fur which incidentally, also adds a fleecy layer of comfort. The adage “walking on clouds” comes close to describing these shoes, but walking on a heated cloud… now we’re getting closer.
With Spring (hopefully) around the corner, I wanted to lighten things up with a fun print under the leather. One of my favorite artists, Fergus Purcell worked side by side the Marc by Marc Jacobs design team to whip up some seriously quirky graffiti style pieces one of which was the tiger paw design. I thought it was fun enough to lighten the mood so on it went. My only regret was not getting the matching key chain…
