Denim Trends for 2012
Denim has always been an important factor for men’s and women’s wear but this next trend takes the cotton we all love so much and put it on our backs instead of our butts.
A denim jacket is as hot as magma right now and will be on only the most stylish people this Spring 2012. The denim fabric trend will be specific to the lighter and medium washes in a medium weight. The darker denim that was so popular for Fall 2011 and Spring 2011 will step aside to it’s easy going buddy the light wash.
That doesn’t mean that you should toss your dark denim out though because a heavy weight dark denim jean looks great paired with a lighter washed out denim jacket with a rolled up sleeve. Another option is to dress it up with a pseudo refined denim blazer which will trick the onlooker to seeing the silhouette of a sport coat but you the wearer will be as comfortable as can be.
Denim is fabulous in all colors and these denim jackets can be paired best with a denim pant in a great color for Spring 2012. I know you have always wanted green denim pants before (wink wink nudge nudge) so now is your time to shine! Invest in canary yellow, or bright red and then pair it with a comfortable loafer with a half sock for the true Italian stylish look. If you’re a gentleman going for the bright colored pant be sure to have a 5 O’clock shadow and a few buttons undone on your dress shirt to complete the look. Yes… I’m serious, this look is hot in it’s own right and can definitely be pulled off in an urban setting with the right amount of confidence.
Before I let you get this look all wrong and tell your friends that you heard it from me I want to leave you with a few points of caution:
- Make sure you’re colored jeans aren’t too tight otherwise people will think you are wearing a costume from the set of Grease.
- Do have something of a tan when wearing this look. A sunkissed complection is the best accessory when wearing bold colors.
- Be casual with the length of the pant (so that purposeful short hem (above the ankle) is great here), be easygoing with the fit of the shirt and waist of the pant (not too tight and not too loose… just right), but the jacket or blazer should be fitted at the waist but not so much so in the arms or shoulders (you are going for suave, not frumpy). A slimmer waisted jacket will bring out the silhouette of the look as well as make this look good for day or evening.
- Lastly… please match your belt with your shoes, and if you can pull off hats then throw on a fedora and go to town. Oh! And I almost forgot, the image or personality of this outfit is yacht weekend warrior. Got it? Alright you’re set to pull off the denim trend this Spring 2012.
OMG Last thing Don’t wear all one color denim or one wash of denim on the top and bottom at the same time! That is called a Canadian Tuxedo and unless you live on a farm this won’t fly. Actually… I don’t think that would fly even on a farm.
