Chanel No. 5 Has a New Model
Brad Pitt has come out of his unshaven stint and lands a fragrance ad… for Chanel No. 5. You may be thinking “But he’s a… and it’s a…” and you would be correct so why has Chanel No. 5 hired Brad as their face? Is it to woo his female audience into buying the world’s best selling fragrance? Is it to get Angelina Jolie to pick up a bottle or two and mention to people that it is her fragrance of choice? After all, her popularity is much more vast than that of her future husband.
Publicity aside the implementation of the Brad Pitt Chanel ads have hit the blogosphere and news world like a hurricane. With all that banter it is no wonder why they chose a member of the opposite gender of their target market. It is somehow more strategic that it is Brad Pitt though, if it were say, Toby Maguire or Adam Lambert the hype would still be present but perhaps with less question marks swirling about. People may actually think that they wear the fragrance as opposed to Brad Pitt.
Will Brad wear the worlds number one perfume? Is he an advocate for it during his daily interactions with people? Perhaps that is why he is now the face. Regardless it is likely that Coco Chanel (if she was still around) would not agree to this. She has always believed that Chanel No. 5 was “a woman’s perfume, with the scent of a woman.” Having a man on the ads just doesn’t make sense unless they are planning a follow up campaign with him and Jolie after they get married. It could happen…
