Seth Meyers, Crazy Fashion, and One Incredibly Awkward Moment
Last night was the CFDA fashion awards which are truly like the Oscars of the Fashion World (Except for the Met), even though the Oscars have many more people dressed by the people at the CFDA awards. Interesting how that works. Regardless when that many people are in a room together the sass meter is out of control and the “Take yourself too serious” scale is buckling. Enter Seth Meyers stage left for comic relief for a room where cracking a smile is like flipping the bird to the queen so many of the jokes, though underhanded, were not taken as well as planned… expecially the Galliano joke.
Seth basically made fun of everyone (as he is so prone to do) but Galliano got a stab when Seth brought up the parallel of fashion and comedy and Bar Mitzvahs and Galliano… insert long pause and crickets with nervous laughter. Perhaps even a pin dropping? Regardless everyone has to see this as the first time it has been publicly semi-acceptable to joke about that tragedy. However if there is someone who can get away with being politically incorrect in the worst way it is Seth.
Next up was the dress that Meyers wore during the second half of his evening. Yeah… sorry more on Seth Meyers before I get to the outlandish fashion. Of course outlandish is relative in a room full of high fashion hoodlums from Anna Wintour to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen but Seth Meyers took the cake as being the only man in a dress. I am of course reffering to the now infamous lace Comme des Garçons dress that Marc Jacobs wore to the Met Gala. Compete with powder blue boxers underneath. The impersonation wasn’t the only jab at Jacobs though, Meyers went on to talk to the fact that Jacobs has a seemingly endless amount of stores on Bleecker Street. Whatever… If there is ever a place to own even a single store in Manhattan I would pick the Nighclub district as well!
Now for coo-coo clothes I am only going to announce my #1 pick of most crazy look which was worn by Kate Bosworth. The Altuzzara dress named ‘Laal’ was a bit of a confused compilation of hippy chic and belly dancer freak. The jangly metal belt did nothing to detract attention from the ambi-curious dress. In fact I think that dress has a hidden agenda and it involves the song Shik Shak Shok by Shira. If you haven’t seen the vid check it out on the next page. And have a laugh reading the entire Seth Meyers speech on page 3.
