Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is basically the craziest place on Earth (in the best way possible) and the Diesel Black Gold show was no exception. Before the show started I got to walk around the stage and see all the super hot celebs and fashion industry celebs including Anna Dello Russo, Carine Roitfeld, Renzo Rosso (President of Diesel), Nicola Formichetti, Susie Bubble, Bryanboy, Franca Sozzani and New York socialites Caitlin Moe and Mia Moretti. The intense flashes from all the cameras was an exciting experience on it’s own but just then… The show started.
As soon as the lights started to flicker and rise, the models took to the catwalk and chaos ensued. Everyone was exhilarated over the slim cut denim, anatomically sewn to emphasize the long slender legs of the models. Nearly every piece was sewn with precision to exude sexiness and play with the concept of denim and the way we think of it.
New creative director Andreas Melbostad has a vision of speeding down an open road with dust in the mirror and the odd classic gas station spotted along the highway as your only companion. You could see this vision through the quilted leather detailing and motorcycle jackets throughout the line. There is always something super sexy about a model with tight jeans or leather pants and a serious look on her face. Diesel Black Gold nailed this look in spades and if you mean business this will be your line of choice come Fall 2013.
I had an opportunity to speak with Nicola Formichetti directly after the show who said “[he] loved the last look, the studded dress… it was cool.” But he LOVED the music! He was singing it and we were all trying to figure out who it was… Anyways it was great! Then as I was leaving I got to meet and chat with Susie Bubble felt that the all over white dresses or the studded dresses were really strong and felt that the looks were totally signature Andreas Melbostad. But when I asked her if she’d wear any of the pieces from the runway she blushed and said “I’d probably mix it up… I’m not really that hot you know?” To which I responded “Whatever! You’re totally HOT!” After all… she is. And so was the collection!
I wrote our the card that was presented to us at the show on each seat for a further read and an in-depth look into the collection. That’s if the photos Matthew St. James took weren’t enough to convince you of the lines ultimate sexiness.

“Diesel Black called gets its motor running has the thrill of speed and the clothing and architecture of gas stations fire up the imagination of new womenswear creative director Andreas Melbostad. Iconic motoring, biker, denim and tailored garments have been fused to create new hybrid designs.
With velocity as a core theme, the clothes are tailored closely to create an aerodynamic and anatomical silhouette. Diesel Black Gold’s irreverence and rock chic run through pieces whose streamlined lines suggests craftsmanship, textures research and finishes.
A leather and waxed cotton hybrid motor jacket and coat, drawing inspiration from iconic motoring garments and collaging them together. Structured shoulders, lean fit, belted and pocketed, with zipper, buckle and snap closures. The leather sleeves and shoulder have quilted details with leather, used to bind, trim and finish the garment.
Engineered biker pants are lean and fitted, anatomically seemed to sculpt an articulate movement. Multiple fabrications, combinations and finishes: raw or treated denim, wool flannel, leather and waxed cotton.
A tailored hybrid jacket cuts denim and leather into wool. Lean shape with leather biker shoulder and sleeve sleeves and quilted zipper and snap details. The torso is pocketed and stitched in raw denim merged with grey wool mélange flannel.
The tailored racer jacket in military green wool is coated with a black leather finish. An essential jeans jacket juxtaposed with the sophistication of black corded lace. Leather biker dress encrusted with metal studs.” – Diesel Black Gold
“I want to capture a variety of materials and designs within one singular look”, says Andrea Melbostad. “Above all, I want to create a collection for the strong, confident and sexy new diesel black gold woman.”
