In the past few years we have seen the fashion industry tackle some of the most pressing issues in our world. From the recession and (thanks to Anna Wintour) implementing fashions night out, to donating huge amounts of money and resources to the relief of natural disasters, like the most recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Now fashion takes on its biggest feat yet, the mother earth.
On Tuesday, the Runway to Green Project was announced and the best in the biz will be banding together to educate themselves, and the rest of the industry on how to be more earth conscious and friendly. The participating designers will be involved in a Clean by Design Program put on by the Natural Resources Defense Council, and implementing greener fabrics, dyes, and packaging, to name just a few.
The Runway to Green project will consist of a runway show put on by designers such as Thakoon, Jason Wu and Tommy Hilfiger, in an effort to raise money to go towards the education of environmental issues. These designers join some of the greats already earth conscious in their designs and executions, such as the beautiful Stella McCartney.
With fashion going greener, this may be the turning point of a whole new wave of green living. The concept of environmentally friendly has become a fad in the recent past, but has needed some of the biggest businesses in the economy to come on board. What better industry than the trendsetting fashion world.
