Today I got my new Canon Rebel T3i camera and I will show all you fashion bloggers and fashion photographers how I use it for my fashion photography.
First thing is finding the right camera for you. I decided to go with the EOS Rebel T31 because it is perfect for my needs. Sure I could have went with a more advanced Canon or another comparable brand but since I know what I am shooting I was able to determine that this was the best model for me. I shoot clothing (So still shots), details on clothing (so macro shots), models for editorials (slight motion in varying light) and runway shows (fast movement low light). I can cover most of my shots with the camera and the lens I have with it the Canon EFS 18-55 Image Stabilizer lens (which I highly recommend).
With this model if you are going from a point and shoot to a DSLR camera this is the one you want. The price currently is $849.99 on sale at most stores (down from $899.99) and does not require you to understand every detail of aperture, exposure, or Depth of Field. The only thing I may have troubles with is shooting in artificial light as Canon’s are known to have problems with that (but the White Balance button is a quick fix for that) and the Runway shows because they require a telephoto lens that captures near perfect DOF and you have to be in the camera pit for those shots anyway and lets face it… Fashion bloggers always want to be seated (preferably front row) at the shows.
Okay so basics: After playing around with my new DSLR for a bit I realized that either I was extremely adept at photography or the camera was making me look like a pro. Either was this is my favorite settings Turn the mode dial at the top to the Scene intelligent auto selected (looks like a green “A” with a box around it and a + in the top right corner) then point at your subject, look through the view finder, or the gorgeous LCD monitor, make sure your subject is in focus and shoot. BLAMO! Beautiful pictures every time.
Alright sound too easy? Well it sort of is but I guarantee if you bought this camera and only did that you would get really awesome pics 98% of the time. For those of you who are a little more advanced I recommend doing further reading on aperture, exposure, ISO, and the incredible functions of the EOS Rebel T3i.
Did you know it shoots 1080 HD videos and while filming you can take wonderful photos! Also it has 9 focal points that you can manipulate to bring exactly which part of the picture you want to see into focus. So much to learn with this bad boy and I will definitely keep you up to date with my photo experiences and obviously I will update the site with new and exciting pictures taken like a pro but with the knowledge of a basic fashion photographer.
