It’s Come To My Attention… These Are My First Pair of White Shoes!
How has this not occurred to me before? I don’t own a pair of white shoes! It’s obvious that my loathe for cleaning and my all too frequent “dropsies” phases intersected in the graph of white shoe ownership. Their absence has only recently been noted as a hole in my life. After (of course) I picked up my first pair.
The other thing I noticed, was that I ended up loving a casual sneaker style versus a “cleaner” smooth white leather lace-up. Since when have I dipped into the casual side of things? Especially… when it’s against beautiful smooth leather that reflects the light and beams with… bleachy colorlessness… I have a knack for these things… what can I say?
The comfort and casual factor have never been a big thing for me. I’d take a fitted, high cut armhole suit jacket over a loose cardigan any day. But maybe… just maybe, things are changing and I’m learning that it doesn’t take “being uncomfortable” to look good. A simple shoe that feels nice when you walk in it and more importantly… one that can, should, and does look better with a bit of dirt on it is a breathe of fresh air.
Once in a while you come into a revelation, and it’s not what I would have expected even a month ago… but change comes when you least expect it. There’s nothing wrong with a worn pair of boots – intentionally so – but worn in a stylish way. There’s no shame in wearing a looser fitting sport coat or sweater and in fact, the casual look is so much more appealing. Not to me… well… okay to me as well, but to others. No one likes a stiff.
