Riccardo Tisci has always been the creator of darker collections, ones that played off of death or anger. This year was a complete turn around. All light all the time with luminous rays of prospect and hope.
Is Riccardo Tisci trying to impress the higher-ups at LVMH? Is he trying to acquire the coveted (and yet to be announced) Christian Dior Chief designer position? Will he repeat history and move from Givenchy to Christian Dior the way his predecessor John Galliano did? The Spring 2012 men’s fashion collection that showed in Paris was a thing of beauty and is says with each look yes.
Whites and greens played with daring silhouettes on the male form. Skirts and high cut jackets made for a sexually ambiguous collection that is probably Tisci’s best work. Flambouyant birds of paradise danced on each piece whether it be a jacket, pant, shirt, skirt, tie or hat, the fabulous floral was sprouting up everywhere making a kaleidoscope of artful pieces.
No one is questioning the theme Jungle Madness and the way Givenchy inspired the glitzy side of things as sometimes the pieces were dripping with diamond sequin all while maintaining the paradise persuasion.
Riccardo Tisci deserved Christian Dior and now he has the proof under his belt that he can in fact do the job. Couture or Ready-to-Wear Mr. Tisci is ready for the challenge.
