So My Friend Just Got IVF… I’m In Tears!
Recently Dolce and Gabbana made a statement in a recent interview about IVF stating that “You are born to a mother and a father — or at least that’s how it should be,” … “I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Uteri [for] rent, semen chosen from a catalog.” When I heard this I was so upset. How can two self respecting gay men say something like this. It sounds like a homophobic Mystique transformed into them and made those comments. It’s so antiquated. We live in the 2010’s and IVF has been making families whole since the 70’s! Come on douche bags, it’s time to accept that individuals who can’t have children have an equal right to technologies available that can allow them to fulfill their dreams of being parents.
When I found out my very close friends completed the implantation I was so overjoyed I teared up and opened some champagne! Celebrating life is natural and beautiful, even if it had a little help from technology.
Here’s another point I had to make, the fact is that my two friends are going to make the BEST parents! they are loving, amazing people with so much to offer a boy or girl it’s cruel that they couldn’t conceive in the common way. Also aside from being great humans they have been together for like 20 years and are completely financially ready for children. They are the perfect parents! If I wasn’t born already I would want to be their kid!
My point is, IVF is perfect, amazing and beautiful. I think of how grateful I am that I will soon be the fabulous “Uncle” who brings designer gifts for the special little guy or gal when ever I visits and… all of a sudden, the comments made by some sad lonely Italians wash away and are completely and utterly forgotten. Thank you to science for the miracle you have delivered to so many people including my very close dear friends.
