Celebrity and Fashion hairstylist, James Brown, who is notably one of Kate Moss’s closest friends, has now had his 15 minutes in the racist spotlight that seems to be plaguing the fashion industry in the last year.
It was revealed by Ben Douglas, at the Bafta Awards (British Academy of Film and Television Awards), that Brown had used the N word towards him numerous times during the awards ceremony.
Brown, of course, released a swift apology saying:
- I’d like to make a public apology to Mr Douglas, to his friends and to Bafta for my offensive and stupid comments. The simple truth is that I had drunk far too much on the evening and my behaviour was totally unacceptable. Everyone who knows me knows I am not racist in any way whatsoever, but this incident has shown me that my drinking is way out of control and I need to take urgent measures to deal with it.
Whatever it was, alcohol or not, one has to wonder what is going on with some of fashions biggest players? Is it substance abuse? Or maybe its an underlying issue within the fashion industry, and racism is actually more common than we think? Whatever the reason, given what has happened to John Galliano after his drunken ‘episode’, I would be very worried as the fate of my career.
