Best Closing Ceremonies Ever with UK’s Top Models
Naomi Campbell walked side by side Kate Moss on the worlds stage at the Olympic games closing ceremony Sunday night. The gowns consisted of shimmering gold McQueen’s and fantastic Burberry Prorsum pieces among others. Each model walked in from a point of the UK flag to the center, an act of patriotism to say the least.
The fact that the closing ceremonies elected to have this element of fashion design present was a great salute to the fashion world which has always been respected and honoured by London and the rest of the UK. After all London is one of the worlds largest fashion weeks and Central Saint Martin is one of the most respected schools for the art of fashion creation so it is only fitting that representing the fashion world in this way was appropriate.
The other models you may or may not recognize are Lily Cole, Lily Donaldson, Karen Elson, Jourdan Dunn, Georgia May Jagger and Stella Tennant. The handsome man in the Paul Smith sharkskin suit is David Gandy. The pressure at a runway show is intense and riveting but imagine walking an extra long runway in front of 22.9 million people… that’s brave. If they weren’t super models before they certainly are now.
Some of the other designers featured on the models were Victoria Beckham, Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood’s Gold Label, Erdem, Jonathan Saunders, and Christopher Kane. It was surprising that Stella McCartney or Temperley London (a favorite of the Middleton Family) wasn’t selected to outfit the models as they are both very successful brands from the UK. But with so few models to outfit there must be cuts made and it would obviously be a tough decision every time.
At the end of the day the models looked great and the representation was spot on.
