Cartier Short Film Ad
There are times when large fashion houses put a lot of time and money into an advertising project, then release it to the world hoping and relying that it will go viral. All too often the end result falls short, appears to be contrived, or just lacks substance. Then there is the other side of the advertising world where a vision is delivered more clearly and beautifully than could have been imagined. Cartier has produced one of these prized moments in advertising with their L’Odyssée de Cartier campaign.
The short 3 minute or so film depicts a beautiful panther busting out of his diamond and sapphire prison and trekking around a mystical world filled with Cartier jewellery pieces at every turn. The lucky cat makes his/her way to his modelesque owner, a vixen in red. The cat tamer wears a panthere collection cuff that looks great on her arm as she pets the beast and then you see the fabulous meaning behind the project come to light. What was once in the store is now on her wrist. It was the journey from the fabulous Cartier showroom to your very own showroom.
The video was also produced as a “cinema epic focusing on its history, its values and inspiration, its artistic and universal scope” how lovely. But if you have 3 minutes to burn I highly recommend checking out this real work of art.
Another great thing about this video is that it will raise the bar for other advertisers in the business and hopefully we’ll see some beautiful cinematic journeys much like this one. I can imagine the cost of this film but when you are paying an average of $50,000.00 or more for a bracelet it is only right that Cartier do something for their clients. In reality… they are creating a beautiful feeling that surrounds their already gorgeous product line. I’m on board.
