I was thrilled when I got the invite to go to Mara Hoffman. The brand that is known for colorful sportswear and popping prints has really gone all out for Fall 2013. Powerful geometric prints that resemble stained-glass windows were made into sheath and handkerchief dresses that sparkled with originality and flair. There’s no doubt that fans of her warm weather looks will gravitate to the feeling of warm weather clothing even in the chilled winter months of Fall 2013.
While Fall is generally an easier time for designers to pump out knitwear and outerwear, Mara Hoffman has to be extra creative to imbue her fall clothing with her cherished fun loving vibrancy. The looks were made warm with long knitted robes with tribal patterns knitted into the fabric, leather pants that were fitted closely to the leg and cut above the ankle, and a thick chunky jacket that was hemmed to mid calf. Though the thicker coat could probably not be worn during the summer, the other pieces transcend the fall season and are applicable throughout the Spring and Summer months.
My favorite looks were actually cut from the same cloth which was a printed multicolored zebra print that had polka-dots all over it. Sound a bit much? Well it was about to get a whole lot more wild. Hoffman decoded to pair a pant in that print, with a dress with a long low back with that print, with a blazer in that print altogether! It literally seemed like carnival was going on as the model walked the catwalk. The party didn’t stop there though, the next look was a dress of the same pattern but with one of my favorite things attached… A PEPLUM! The fierce model had such an amazing intense silhouette and the peplum kicked her curves into overdrive.
I think that not only will this collection do well on the retail sales floor, but will be the Rosetta stone for the brand that will translate the fun loving prints and colors, into a year round product that can be worn at any time.
