So a couple nights ago I had the wonderful opportunity to meet and hang out with Yasmin Warsame. Yasmin is not only a fellow Canadian, she’s an incredible model, activist and one hell of a brilliant woman.
We had the chance to chat after a fashion show in support of women struggling to get support and help get off the streets and out of the street trades. It was touching to see her commitment and genuine passion for the cause.
The event was held in Toronto and it was a great turn out.
“”In Toronto, women across the city are living in extreme poverty, facing a daily struggle to meet their physical, emotional, financial, spiritual and social needs. A large portion of these women are women of colour, immigrant and Aboriginal women. Similarly, Regent Park has a high population of homeless women, sex workers and low-income women who are daily victims of physical, psychological and emotional violence. A number of community-based agencies have taken to responding to the needs of homeless and street-involved women through the development of women’s drop-ins that create a safe space for women to meet, gain support, and, in some organizations, access primary medical care and social services.”
