Mr. Fluevog Walks The Walk
Meeting any designer is thrilling to me, but meeting John Fluevog was exceptionally nice because I could tell there was no pretences with him. He talks, the way he walks. He designs shoes because he likes a certain aesthetic; not because of a popular style or trend that is rampaging through the shoe closets of high fashion shoppers, and that makes him special in my books.
But when speaking to him (aside from being just a nice guy), you instantly gravitate to his charming sense of self and for a moment get lost in his wacky world of interesting shoes. To be honest, many of his dearest fans find a connection to his particular aesthetic and end up finding themselves latched to his triangular heel, pronounced piping or men’s heeled shoe. Myself included.
When it comes to caring for your feet the VOG way of life (flue”VOG”) has your best interests in mind. John may not always like the popular shoes, but he certainly crafts them with a sense of foot health at heart. The word shoegasm comes to mind. Not only are the shoes well made for your comfort and pleasure, but the science that stands behind them is incredible to say the least. The shoes may not be uncomfortable… but they still look good.
But back to John… his biography is hilarious on his website and I have to admit, I expected a bit of a wave your hands kind of man with a flip of the hair to entertain the party goers. And though he’s fun, I certainly wouldn’t chalk him up to being frivolous, but there is a sense of humor that is easily seen, if not only through the soles of his shoes.
“It isn’t about designing a shoe that sells well… It’s about being creative”
