What a Mesh
Here is a trend that I’ve been watching for a while but never thought it would get as big as it has – Mesh!
Ever since Dolce and Gabbana’s Spring 2012 men’s collection the whole world has hopped on board the mesh maddness train – First Stop “Perforated Paradise!”
Tops, pants, shorts, shirts, full on dresses, all made of mesh! Sometimes it is the skirt or parts of the sleeve or perfectly placed holes or slices of mesh like in Zac Posen’s, Donna Karan’s, and BCBG’s Spring 2012 collections that just showed at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The maxi was in big last season but this season the more mesh the better!
How to wear it. Don’t wear an entire body suit of mesh (unless you are into that, but looking like a holey cat woman certainly requires you to be somewhat kinky.) Instead, be selective about the mesh you find like a tee shirt that is fitted and then wear a looser sleevless top over top. Similarly go out and get some mesh tights that are footless and throw a Ballerina style skirt over-top or some loose cargo shorts in a fun color. Better yet, go to stores like Michael Kors, Donna Karan, and Dolce and Gabbana and pick up a dress that is pre-perforated for your trend fulfillment.
Remember mesh doesn’t have to be see through it can also be a lay over effect like Zac Posen did throughout his entire collection. Told you tulle would rule again!
If you REALLY want to rock this trend as it is on the runway add a dash of neon to the mix and voila! You are an instant fashionista and people will likely mistake you for a fashion blogger! (That’s of course, the biggest honor.)
Things to avoid! Don’t be a “Mesh Monkey”. “What is that?” you ask? It’s a person who has hair that pokes through their mesh. Yeah! Barf soup! Don’t do it. Nair is your friend.
