Michael Kors Spring 2012 Collection
Michael Kors is right on par when it comes to Trends even when people don’t understand his collection at first, they always come around when they realize that he was the pioneer of a particular trend.
Resort 2012 was a perfect example of Michael’s ability to be a pioneer of trends when he made an entire collection out of neoprene and in neon colors. At the time most fashion reviewers were saying WTF? But as time passed and more collections were shown we got to see that all of the designers were throwing neon into their collections and sporting wear was ever popular.
This season was no different and it seems that now is the time to invest in thick wooden bangles and really any accessory that speaks Tribal. Tribal is the new neoprene! This season Kors wasn’t all on his own though because Donna Karan’s collection was also chock full of the strong trend. Where Michael Kors used more animal prints, Donna Karan used more abstract looking prints that resembled cave drawings and actual tribe costumes.
It seems that safari wear will be in for Spring as demonstrated by the use of khaki colored pieces and brown leather accessories that look extremely functional. During the finale one of the pieces that will be big in stores was the tie-dye dresses in brown and khaki green silk, but the real treat was the thick python shoulder straps that looped down around the neck and wrapped around the top of the dress. The exquisite use of python really sets Kors apart from other designers who seemingly toss python into a collection just to have it present.
