From January 15th to the 19th Milan is home to Milano Moda Uomo(Milan Menswear). This is a chance for designers to showcase their men’s fashion collections for the first time this year for next year. The collections that are being shown are Men’s Fall/Winter 2011/2012 and they are looking luxurious and decadent.
The last time i saw this much fur on the runways was… oh yeah in womenswear. I love animals but I can also appreciate wearing fur for warmth and for fashion. Menswear is about opulence this season and Ermenegildo Zegna displayed this perfectly with slim suits, bushy fur hats and even more fur around the collars of their outerwear. This season another trend I noticed was the sparkle effect. In the first couple days of Milan’s fashion week nearly every line contained some amount of sparkle ranging from a dash of sparkle to a full on disco party(for example: Prada’s flashy display of shiny polos and long sleeved shirts made completely out of a fabric so glitzy you might see it on aliens from a B movie).
I have to give props to Christopher Bailey for what was at first an “interesting” collection of outerwear of every muted color you can imagine , that led to a fantastic transformation on the runway into a magnificent display of fur and shearling coats (ranging from 3,000 to almost 30,000) . So luxe! Mink was as prominent on Burberry’s Fall 2011-2012 runway show as their classic trench coat was.
The name Dolce & Gabbana brings a twinkle to even the most redneck-tractor-driving-hillbilly and this season we are reminded why. The way Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana give life to their party wear is unsurpassed. The tuxedos were made completely of velvet and the disco type cocktail jackets were absolutely out of this world! Being comfortable with your masculinity has never been SO required with this line, but I hope you guys out there take that as a challenge, not a warning.
A detailed write up of the Prada
disaster Fashion Collection is on its way. Here is a preview:
“-I’m not saying that the stylist or creative director of Prada should be shot and pissed on but I would go so far as to say WTF? The suits were fitting like those from “Big and Tall”, the fabrics were odd and completely mismatched, and the styling was WAY out to lunch. Sparkly socks… Really?
