Recently it was discovered that the Milan Fashion Week will overlap the London Fashion Week for Spring 2012!
This is a big issue besides the obvious (shows overlapping), if Editors, Photographers, and Bloggers have to choose between London and Milan, some say London won’t have enough support to continue as a fashion week.
Since last week when Milan’s fashion week governing body ‘Camera Nazionale della Moda’ changed their schedules to overlap apart of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York and most of London Fashion Week, everyone has been trying to convince Milan to move their dates back.
Paris Fashion Week was on board with the move and followed suit by moving their fashion week to follow Milan. Now in order to fix the problem New York has to move their fashion week back almost a week, as does London. What was Milan’s response when asked to move their dates back? “Let the best one win” said Camera Moda’s head Mario Boselli.
Though it is likely that Milan will NOT back down from their decision New Yorkers may have to cancel their Labor Day Weekend plans as that is now the weekend that Mercedes-Benz will start on.
Though there is an international agreement made in 2008 to maintain their respectable dates, seemingly every Italian in fashion agrees with the decision to change the dates as there was a unanimous vote to do so. It certainly makes one wonder why they did this in the first place.
