Prabal Gurung Celebrates Resort 2013 With Friends
When Resort fashion week kicked off people at the shows are in the know when it comes to parties and after-parties but they also know that Resort season and Pre-Fall season have a severe lack of celebratory events. When Prabal Gurung mentioned that he was going to have a party in light of his collection there was no end of fashion A-list attendees and great get-ups.
“I love everything Prabal does—every woman wants a piece in their closet,” Joan Smalls told Style.com last night at Indochine, where the designer Prabal Gurung and his friends Diane von Furstenberg, Jenna Lyons, and Liu Wen, among others, were toasting his recent Resort collection. And when she said every woman, Smalls wasn’t kidding: “He hasn’t given me a piece,” she said. “I think we need to talk about this.”
She may not have a dress just yet, but the man of the hour, or rather the “man of the longest day of the year,” as the evening’s host, MAC’s John Demsey, put it, had some kind words for his supermodel friend during his speech. “I grew up when all the supermodels were on the covers, and in Nepal I used to see Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, and everyone, and I was like, ‘One day I will go to New York.’ To see that happen to you, Joan”—he meant her new W magazine cover—”I was like, ‘Damn, no she didn’t.’ But behind that success is years and years of perseverance.” Read more at Style
So from troubled Nepal, Prabal Gurung had a dream and carried through, so even if the resort 2013 collection wasn’t at all what people had hoped for (which it absolutely was) he would have still have been celebrated because of his ability to achieve his dream of becoming an accomplished New Yorker. Well done Prabal, We wish you all the best.
