Prada wins the battle of the magazine cover count by a long shot with a total of 77. The Spring 2011 collection for Prada was EVERYWHERE! We thought that they had won the magazine war when the Prada Pieces were on 48 covers back in April but now the final tally is in.
What does this mean on a global level? With one magazine cover a label could easily avoid bankruptcy, or move to new thresholds in revenue, with 10 magazine covers you are simply in the worlds top ten brands and deserve to be in the spotlight next season. Now with 77 covers you are the leader in what should be a guiness world record and from a business perspective Prada shouldn’t worry about going public because this collection when seen in the street has been seen by millions of eyes to an extent that people won’t say “hey that is that dress that Anna wore on the cover of WSJ” but they will know that it is Prada and they will want this no doubt sold out collection more than a Birkin bag! Hats off to you Miuccia Prada for a collection well made, well marketed, and well managed.
Magazines, regardless of the steady dip in sales, holds the position of fashion bible and for the most part, even if you have never purchased a magazine before, you have seen a magazine cover and are therefore influenced by their message. You can’t avoid it, they are everywhere, thrusting their message down your throat.
This past season magazines everywhere demand that you open up and cram some Prada into your wardrobe with a smile on your face! Even Marc Jacobs wore a Prada Stole to a public function. He who designs for several companies and is apart of the LVMH team in a mega way wears something that isn’t even apart of the LVMH band of brands. That’ s saying something.
