Welcome to The Women’s 2013 Resort Report Part 2
If you’re unsure where Resort fits into fashion… I’ve got your back. Resort… or Cruise, is nestled in between the Winter and Spring seasons with the sole purpose of filling suitcases with flashy fashions for anyone who is gearing up to take off for the winter on a cruise; or just grabbing a pina colada at your favorite hot spot south of the border. For us die-hard fashion junkies Resort is a glimpse into what will be hitting the runways in the upcoming Spring season.
Selecting key pieces from Resort will not only put you right on trend for Spring/Summer 2013, it’ll make life much easier when packing for those fun in the sun vacations. In a way you might look at the Resort collections as a blessing… when your wardrobe is weighed down with cashmere and jackets and there’s no hope of digging up your summer threads, salvation can be found at your local luxury retailer come December.
Moving onto this seasons top trends, I urge you to consider: Brightly Colored Prints:
Don’t be shy! Let your inner glitterati strut down that beach in this bold lime green animal print dress by Roberto Cavalli, this exploded floral print dress courtesy of Oscar de la Renta, or rock this Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen metallic suit to a late night cocktail party.
For maximum ooo’s and ahhh’s, keep in mind that a healthy tan (bottle or otherwise) will make those colors pop!
Next up: Peplums:
This trend has carried through from last season and is going strong… so if your missed the boat, now’s the time to hop on board. Peplum is a piece of fabric that juts out from the waist, it can be attached to the hips of a dress, or near the bottom of a shirt or short jacket but it never fails to add depth and dimension to a silhouette. Take the plunge and grab a peplum capped-sleeve shirt shown here from Oscar de la Renta, this ruffled dress from Emilio Pucci, or this St. John light weight sweater in summery blush.
Finally: The Gaucho:
This last trend is a bit of a spoiler alert, and will really hit the stage in spring, but in the interest of keeping you looking your best, I give you, the gaucho pant. Comfort and Stylish. The gaucho was originally worn by men in South America who were similar to the cowboys here in North America. The pants came to about mid-calf and were wide-legged.
To feminize them, designers have taken the original design and crafted them out of luxurious silks detailed in ornate prints. We first saw the Gaucho emerge when Celine’s head designer Pheobe Philo showed these Gauchos with a structured blazer, creating an outfit with a sense of power and ease. Fast forward to Louis Vuitton Resort 2013 and we see how this trend is taking shape. The Gauchos were clean and crisp with a delicate waist closure. Meanwhile over at Acne, the crinkled linen wide-legged shorts were fit for a romp in the hay. Grab ’em and dress ’em up or down. Either way you’ll be glad to have a pair come spring, when they fly off the racks.
To wrap it up, Remember:
No Color is Taboo. The brighter, the better. Go a little crazy and mix up some vibrant prints. Feel pretty in peplums and be sure to grab some gloriuos gauchos.
See you on the beach.
